This is definitely one of the best rockabilly records, if not the best and most consistent. It's a bit more on the snotty, aggressive side of things, which has held up pretty well. Aside from Gene Vincent's band with Cliff Gallup in the lineup, the Rock 'n' Roll Trio were probably the best combo of the 50s. Johnny's howl! Solid guitar work and pretty much entirely comprised of great tracks, including the influential "The Train Kept a Rollin'", which especially has a pretty savage guitar sound for the 50s. The sound is pretty stripped down and raw—guitars, bass, drums, and some piano on two tracks.
It's void of tacky production influence, except for the obnoxious backing vocals on "I Love You So", which is the only real skipper. On the bonus track version, the mediocre "If You Want It Enough" and the better "Touch Me" also have backing vocals, but they're not quite as invasive. You also get the double entendre of "Eager Beaver Baby" and the classic "Tear It Up", which the Cramps would later toss into their repertoire.
Dig that Memphis dive bar rock & roll vibe.
